Interested in Ingredients?

At Southern Inspired Treats, not only do we love food, love the Southern style and package your dogs' treats in an unbelievably cute way, we take great care to use ingredients that will not have any negative effects on dogs, and instead, have health benefits!  So, the treats taste great to your dog(s) and they are truly good for them!

Here are a few things you may want to know before purchasing SIT goodies for your dogs:
  • All ingredients are certified organic and, when possible, locally grown.
  • No preservatives are used.
  • We only use safflower oil (not vegetable, peanut, corn, etc.) in our treats.  Safflower oil is high in Omega-6 fatty acid - linoleic acid (LA).  Fatty acids are a necessity for our dogs and can have wonderful health benefits, including staving off allergies and keeping skin and coats extremely healthy.  I currently have a dog with dry, flaky skin, but a small drop of safflower oil on his food once a day keeps the flakes at bay, adding essential LA to his skin.  We use safflower oil sparingly in our treats, however, and do not recommend high doses of the oil.
  • Organic brown rice flour is a main ingredient for many of our treats.  This whole-grain flour basically creates a gluten-free snack for your dog, adds fiber to their diet and does not pose a threat for dogs with wheat allergies (known or unknown).
  • Organic oat flour mixes perfectly with organic brown rice flour and is another great source of dietary fiber.
  • Organic peanut butter is a staple in our pantry! Peanut butter is a favorite food, being naturally high in foliate, which is a form of vitamin B. It is also a strong source of protein and being organic, makes sure your dog is safe from toxins and pesticides entering their body.
  • Local raw honey is used as a natural sweetener and research says honey is also packed with a variety of amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.
  • Cinnamon is a great addition for extra yummy flavor, but did you know it also has anti-inflammatory benefits for dogs suffering from painful joints?  And, it helps promote blood circulation, regulate glucose levels and can be beneficial for dogs prone to infections with its antifungal properties.
  • Free-range, organic eggs offer protein, foliate, iron and zinc and can benefit our dogs' skin and coats.
  • Locally grown organic fruits and vegetables ensure your dog is getting a healthy dose of necessary vitamins and minerals without harmful pesticides or toxins.
These are just some of the organic and natural ingredients important to us in providing the healthiest treats possible for your dogs!  What dogs should eat is not too far removed from what humans should eat, and at Southern Inspired Treats, we make sure we offer something that is tasty and advantageous for our best friends.

Try them out!
